He Restores My Soul
I remember a book we had as children – it was about a little lamb that went astray and became hopelessly lost. It told of the shepherd who sought painfully and diligently until he found it, then lovingly lifted it onto the safety of his shoulders and carried it back to the fold. It was based on a story that the Lord Jesus told.
Rejoice with me…
…for I have found my sheep
which was lost. Luke 15v6
I wonder if there was once a time in your life when you enjoyed the company of like-minded Christians. When you lived each step of your life with your eyes on the Saviour. A time when you spoke to God as ‘Father’ and basked in the appreciation of His love and favour.
Is it still so today?
…Or have you strayed from the flock and following the shepherd?
Do you still call God ‘Father’?
…Or does He feel so far off that you wonder whether He’d hear?
Christ’s followers are never promised an easy life. But take comfort in this:
“… That neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8v38-39
The Lord Jesus once spoke thus of a wayward child’s return:
“When he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” Luke 15v20
The Shepherd is seeking and calling for His wandering sheep; and just like the father in the story, so our heavenly Father is watching and waiting for your return.
Dear wandering one, make it your prayer today:
…Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; Psalm 51v12
