“We will remember them”

At the going down of the sun and in the morning…
“WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”
…or will we?
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15v13
Only the most ungrateful among us would remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom without a sense of sorrow, remorse and gratitude.
Winston Churchill could not have been more accurate when he said,
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
But he did say, “in the field of human conflict”. You see, the greatest sacrifice ever, was made years before, by the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2v20
Could it be true of us, that while we remember those who sacrificed their lives for our earthly freedom, we forget the only one who’s sacrifice can give us heavenly freedom for all eternity?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3v16
Like the sacrifices of war: I can remember, and enjoy living in the good of it – or throw it all away and suffer the consequences myself. Eternal consequences.
God’s promise to those who believe Christ’s sacrifice was for them, and have been to him for forgiveness, is:
“Their sins … will I remember no more.” Hebrews 10v17
